Promoting breast screening

Help increase participation in breast screening.

There is evidence that some women are primarily motivated to participate in breast screening by a recommendation from their general practitioner.

The efficacy of the BreastScreen Australia program in reducing morbidity and mortality for breast cancer is well established. Read more in the BreastScreen Australia monitoring report 2020 by the Australian Institute of Health and Wellbeing.

You can help to increase participation in breast screening by determining your patient’s eligibility then, if appropriate, recommending screening using one of our forms.

You can also remind your patients who are due for a breast screen. One way to do this is to add recall flags to patient files so you can remind patients at their next consultation.
